Country’s first dedicated cycling track unveiled in Ctg

Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) has opened a 2.2-kilometre dedicated cycling track on the city’s Airport Road, which it describes as the first of its kind in Bangladesh, to promote environment-friendly transport and improve cyclists’ safety. The project aims to ease traffic congestion and promote environment-friendly transport and the government has pledged to develop more such facilities across the port city.

Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury formally inaugurated the track on Friday morning.

Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain and Abu Sufian, MP, were also present.

Built under the city corporation’s “Chattogram Airport Road Expansion and Other Physical Infrastructure Development” project, the four-lane road runs from Shah Amanat International Airport to the elevated expressway.

Footpaths line both sides, and a central median separated by kerbstones divides the carriageways. The cycle track runs alongside a landscaped walkway on one side.

The mayor said the separate lane is expected to improve cyclists’ safety, expand opportunities for eco-friendly travel, and encourage residents to adopt healthier, more active lifestyles.

The initiative also aims to provide safe and comfortable transport for city residents and tourists, and the city corporation expects it to improve the urban landscape.

Following the inauguration, the finance minister, mayor and local lawmaker invited guests and cyclists rode along the new track.
