Tigers pile up 317/8 on Day 1

Bangladesh piled up 317 for the loss of eight wickets on the Day 1 against Afghanistan in the first Test cricket match at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates on Friday.

The Tigers had a solid start with two openers Tanzid Hasan and Shadman Islam put on together 124 runs in the opening stand before Tanzid Hasan was caught behind by wicketkeeper Ikram Alikhil off Ismat Alam.

Tanzid Hasan notched up a terrific 83. His 73-ball innings was laced with eight fours and four sixes. It was Tanzid’s maiden half-century in his Test campaign.

After Tanzid’s dismissal, Shadman Islam and Mominul Haque repaired the damage contributing together 60 runs for the second wicket partnership before Shadman Islam was caught at the square leg by Zia-up-Rahman off Mohammad Saleem when Bangladesh’s score was 184 for the loss of two wickets.

Shadman knocked a sedate 67. His 111-ball innings was studded with seven fours. It was Shadman’s ninth half-century in Test cricket.

After Shadman’s departure, Mominul Haque and Najmul Hossain Shanto added together 37 runs for the third wicket partnership before Mominul Haque was caught at the short cover by Rahmat Shah off Yamin Ahmedzai when the Tigers’ total was 221 for the loss of three wickets.

Mominul Haque made 39 from 70 deliveries including four fours.

Later, Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz built a worthy partnership adding together 62 runs in the six-wicket stand before Miraz (24) was bowled out by Ismat Alam when Bangladesh’s score was 287 for the loss of six wickets.

Then, Bangladesh failed to make any notable partnership. Litton Das was caught at the deep square leg by Yamin Ahmadzai off Mohammad Saleem when the Tigers’ total was 303 for the loss of seven wickets.
Litton Das hit a fine 53. His 89-ball innings was ornamented with four fours. It was Litton’s 21st half-century in his Test campaign.

Nayeem Hasan and Taijul Islam were on 11 and four runs respectively before the bails were drawn for the first day.

Mohammad Saleem grabbed three wickets in the space of 70 runs, while Ismat Alam and Yamin Ahmadzai bagged two wickets each for 20 and 62 runs respectively.
