NARAYANGANJ: Narayanganj Sadar Upazila Engineer Yasir Arafat and Walton Plaza Managing Director Mohammad Raihan exchange deal documents at the Upazila Parishad conference hall on Thursday.

Narayanganj Sadar Upazila Parishad has signed an agreement with Walton to install a 15-kilowatt hybrid solar power system at the Fatullah Growth Centre .

The agreement was signed by Upazila Engineer Yasir Arafat on behalf of Narayanganj Sadar Upazila Parishad and Mohammad Raihan, managing director of Walton Plaza, on behalf of Walton. The signing ceremony was held at the Upazila Parishad conference hall on Thursday afternoon.

SM Foyz Uddin, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Narayanganj Sadar, attended the event as the chief guest. Senior Walton officials and other relevant stakeholders were also present. Under the broader initiative, hybrid solar power systems with a combined capacity of 571 kilowatt-peak (kWp) will be installed in phases at various institutions under the Local Government Division in Narayanganj Sadar Upazila.

The initiative is scheduled to be implemented over the next four months.
The project is expected to increase the use of renewable energy in government institutions, reduce electricity costs and carbon emissions, and promote environmentally sustainable infrastructure.

It could also create opportunities to explore carbon crediting under Article 6.4 of the Paris Agreement in the future. In line with the Prime Minister’s directives, the UNO and the upazila engineer are jointly leading efforts to implement the initiative at the upazila level. The move is being viewed as a significant step towards expanding renewable energy use and promoting climate-resilient development at the local level.
