Jashore police holds kabaddi tournament

The closing and prize-giving ceremony of the First Community Police Kabaddi Championship-2026, was held at Jashore Town Hall Ground on Thursday.

The championship was organised by Jashore District Police with the cooperation of the Jashore District Sports Association, under the slogan, “Say No to Drugs, Eliminate Juvenile Gangs, Build a Healthy and Strong Life,” following instructions from the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

Jashore Superintendent of Police Syed Rafiqul Islam, PPM, attended the closing and prize-giving ceremony. At the end of the competition, he distributed trophies among the winning and losing teams.
Additional Police Super (Administration and Finance) Md Rajibul Islam conducted the closing and prize-giving ceremony.

The competition was conducted in accordance with the prescribed rules, with overall support from community policing committees and guidance from the relevant sports associations. Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation provided the necessary technical assistance.

Initially, women’s and men’s kabaddi teams were formed at the union level, and upazila champion teams were selected through competitions. At the district level, the tournament began with eight men’s teams and eight women’s teams, comprising the upazila champions from across Jashore district.

After a series of exciting matches, the men’s teams from Kotwali Police Station and Abhaynagar Police Station, and the women’s teams from Kotwali and Bagharpara police stations, advanced to the finals.

Abhaynagar Police Station’s men’s team and Kotwali Police Station’s women’s team emerged as district champions. The initiative aimed to engage young people in sports, keep them away from drugs, juvenile gangs and other crimes, and strengthen community policing activities across the country.

The district champion and runner-up teams will compete at the divisional level. Following the divisional competitions, the men’s and women’s teams will advance to the national-level tournament.

Among others present were Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education) Masum Billah; Jashore District Kabaddi Federation Convener Abul Bashar Saifuddaula; Jashore Press Club President Zahid Hasan Tukun; Jashore Institute General Secretary A Z M Salek Swapan; Chinnoy Saha of the District Sports Association; Additional Superintendent of Police (Circle B) Md Munna Biswas; the officer-in-charge of Kotwali Model Police Station; the Reserve Inspector of Jashore Police Lines; referees nominated by the Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation; players and coaches from different police stations; and officers and personnel of Jashore District Police.
