Fortis beat Brothers Union

An exciting moment of the Bangladesh Football League match between Fortis FC and Brothers Union at Gopalganj District Stadium on Friday.

Brothers Union (BU) are the traditional club in Bangladesh’s domestic football competitions.

At one time, this all-arrange team were considered the “third force,” capable of challenging giants like Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited and Dhaka Abahani Limited.

The Gopibagh-based club have gradually become a mere shadow of its former self.

The sorry state of Brothers-struggling to survive in the top flight-was laid bare during a Bangladesh Football League match on Friday.

Fortis FC defeated Brothers Union by six goals to nil at Gopalganj District Stadium, with every single goal coming in the second half.

This was Fortis FC’s third league match; notably, they have scored six goals against their opponents in two of these games.

After defeating Chattogram City FC 6-0, Fortis drew 3-3 with City Club in their second match. Now, they have defeated Brothers 6-0.

This rising powerhouse of domestic football have already netted 15 goals in just three matches.

Brothers were not merely crushed by the goal margin. They failed to put up any real fight at all.

The fact that the first half ended goalless might suggest a competitive match, but in reality, Fortis simply failed to convert their chances early on.

Disregarding Brothers entirely, they went on to score six goals in the final 30 to 35 minutes.

Throughout the match, Fortis held 93 percent possession compared to Brothers’ 7 percent.

Fortis took 22 shots at the Brothers goalbar, with 12 on target, resulting in six goals. In the entire 90-minute game, Brothers Union failed to register a single shot on the Fortis goalbar.

Ibrahim opened the scoring for Fortis in the 56th minute. Insan doubled the lead in the 68th minute.

In the 75th minute, Gambian player Pa Omar Babou made it 3-0, and he went on to score his second goal in the 81st minute. In the 83rd minute, Nigerian player Stephen Chukwudu scored to give Fortis a 5-0 lead.

Raphael Tudu drove the final nail into Brothers’ coffin during stoppage time. Fortis took the top of the points table with 7 points from three matches.
