Winning starts for Mohammedan, Kings in Federation Cup
Bashundhara Kings did not have a good start in the Bangladesh Football League. They drew their opening match with Arambagh Krira Sangha on September 19.
The five-time champions have kicked-off their Federation Cup campaign with a resounding victory.
On Tuesday, they defeated Dhaka Wanderers 5-0 at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj.
On the same day, Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited defeated Arambagh Krira Sangha 3-1 at Gopalganj District Stadium.
Meanwhile, the day’s other match between Bangladesh Police Football Club and City Club at the Shaheed Miraj-Tapan Stadium in Manikganj ended in a 1-1 draw.
Bashundhara Kings and Mohammedan secured three points each in their opening Group B matches, while Police FC and City Club earned one point apiece.
Kings dominated the match against Dhaka Wanderers Club from the very beginning, asserting their superiority in ball possession, attacking play, and chance creation.
They controlled the ball for approximately 70 percent of the match and launched wave after wave of attacks.
Over the course of 90 minutes, Kings took 16 shots at the Wanderers’ goalbar, with seven on target. Although the Wanderers’ goalkeeper managed to save two, Kings scored from the remaining five.
Midfielder Sabbir Hossain netted a brace and their Brazilian recruit Robson Robinho, Alomgir Molla, and Mohammad Abdullah scored one goal each.
In contrast, Mohammedan did not have an ideal start against Arambagh, falling behind in the 16th minute. Arambagh’s Ghanaian midfielder Rayies Suraj scored to put his team ahead. However, Mohammedan staged a comeback in the second half.
They equalized in the 57th minute through a goal by Sourav Dewan. Subsequently, Mohammad Sohel Rana scored in the 74th minute to put Mohammedan in the lead.
Souleymane Diabate scored another goal in stoppage time, sealing a 3-1 victory for Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited.
