Bomb attack threat at BRAC University

A bomb attack threat was made against the private BRAC University. The threat was sent to the university authorities by email on Sunday. A general diary (GD) was filed with Badda Police Station over the incident.

Police said the threatening email arrived at 6:44pm on Sunday. Sent from the email ID “TypicalChineseman@gmail.com”, the message threatened multiple bomb attacks on BRAC University at around 11am next Tuesday.

The email, addressed to everyone at the university, said: “I will carry out a mass bomb attack at BRAC University, located at Kha-224, Pragati Sarani, Dhaka 1212, Bangladesh.

So if you see my face, know that none of you will be able to stop what is about to happen. This attack will be carried out at around 11am on 6 October.”

BRAC University has filed a GD at Badda Police Station over the incident. The matter is currently being investigated by the cyber unit of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

Tariqul Islam, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the DMP DB’s Cyber and Special Crime (South) division, said: “We are investigating the matter. But nothing can be said right now.”
