Nov 7 gets holiday status
The government has declared November 7 a public holiday to mark National Revolution and Solidarity Day, bringing the day under Category ‘Ka’ of the national and international days list.
The decision was taken at the 23rd cabinet meeting at the Secretariat on Monday, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, according to a press release issued by the Cabinet Division.
Under the decision, November 7 will be observed as a general holiday every year, with the day formally recognised as National Revolution and Solidarity Day.
The Cabinet Division said in its release: “Every year on November 7, there will be a general holiday for National Revolution and Solidarity Day, and ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’ will be observed.”
The decision marks a formal recognition of the day in the government’s national observance calendar.
Meanwhile, the government has also declared October 22 a public holiday by executive order on the occasion of Durga Puja.
The additional holiday will allow members of the Hindu community to enjoy a continuous five-day holiday during the Sharadiya Durga Puja celebrations.
According to the Cabinet Division, holidays for Sharadiya Durga Puja will be observed from October 20 to 22, 2026.
To compensate for the additional holiday, all government, autonomous and semi-autonomous offices will remain open on Saturday, October 17.
The Cabinet Division said the arrangement had been made to maintain the working schedule while allowing the additional holiday for Durga Puja.
The government’s decision on November 7 places National Revolution and Solidarity Day alongside other nationally recognised observances in Category ‘Ka’, while the separate executive order provides an extended holiday period for Durga Puja this year.
