LPG gets costlier by Tk252
Households using liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) will face higher cooking fuel costs in October, with the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) raising the retail price of a 12kg cylinder by Tk252 to Tk1,837.
The new rate, equivalent to an increase of Tk21 per kilogramme, took effect at 6pm on Sunday and will remain in force until further orders, according to a BERC notification issued on Sunday.
The regulator fixed the retail price of private LPG, including VAT, at Tk153.06 per kg for October, up from Tk132.08 in September.
The September price had reduced the cost of a 12kg cylinder by Tk13 to Tk1,585.
The latest increase follows a rise in Saudi Aramco’s Contract Price (Saudi CP), a key benchmark used in determining LPG prices in Bangladesh.
The average Saudi CP for propane and butane, based on a 35:65 ratio, rose to $712.50 per metric tonne in October from $647.75 in September.
The price of other LPG cylinders has also increased.
The 5.5kg cylinder has been set at Tk842 for October, up from Tk727 in September, while the price of a 12.5kg cylinder has risen to Tk1,913 from Tk1,652.
The prices of 15kg, 20kg and 45kg cylinders have been fixed at Tk2,296, Tk3,061 and Tk6,888 respectively, compared with Tk1,982, Tk2,642 and Tk5,945 in September.
Autogas also costlier The price of autogas, widely used as a vehicle fuel, has also increased sharply.
BERC fixed the consumer-level price at Tk84.62 per litre for October, an increase of Tk11.53 from Tk73.09 in September.
For LPG supplied through reticulated systems, the consumer price has been set at Tk149.31 per kg in liquid form and Tk0.3319 per litre, equivalent to Tk331.90 per cubic metre, in gaseous form.
However, the regulator kept the price of state-owned LPG unchanged at Tk776.93 for a 12.5kg cylinder at dealer and retailer points, under its order issued on 23 February 2026.
BERC also instructed LPG storage and bottling licensees to sell the fuel to distributors at the revised post-bottling price and issue VAT invoices or delivery orders accordingly.
The latest price increase comes amid reports of supply shortages and higher retail prices in parts of the country.
Although BERC had fixed the price of a 12kg cylinder at Tk1,585 in September, consumers in some areas have been paying significantly more because of supply constraints.
