Florence Pugh’s anger at artistes’ silence over Gaza

Oscar-nominated British actress Florence Pugh has lost millions of followers on social media for speaking out for the oppressed people of Palestine.

But she has no regrets about it. In a recent interview with entertainment magazine Vanity Fair, Florence said that she has never been afraid to speak out for Palestine; in fact, she is surprised why it took Hollywood so long to speak out about the plight of the Palestinians.

While many Hollywood stars remained silent on Gaza, Florence Pugh has been standing in support of Palestine.

She regularly shares links to humanitarian aid funds for the Palestinians on social media.

She also came to the centre of discussion by participating in the ‘Together for Palestine’ concert held in London in September last year.

At that time, Florence Pugh told the audience, “To remain silent in the face of such an extreme humanitarian crisis is not neutrality, it is complicity in a crime.

I still don’t understand why it took people so long to talk about this situation and express sympathy,” Florence told Vanity Fair. “But I’ve never been afraid to speak up for Palestine.

It used to confuse me when so many in Hollywood were consciously silent. Maybe their silence made me want to speak out more.”

Florence also said that she was never told by her team not to speak out on the Palestinian issue.

Even despite her busy schedule shooting for the movie ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, her colleagues supported her in every way to participate in the fundraising concert.
More than two million dollars were raised from that concert.

Regarding the ongoing crisis in Gaza, Florence Pugh said, “Children are still dying there, mothers are crying.

The hardest thing is to go on social media. How can I write about my well-being when, if I scroll up a little, the face of a child who has lost his parents appears before my eyes?”

Florence Pugh is also having a busy time acting. The mini-series ‘East of Eden’ starring her will be released on Netflix on October 1.

Two big-budget movies starring her are set to be released in theaters together on December 18-Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and the science fiction franchise ‘Dune: Part Three’.
