4 held after rally in Dhanmondi

Police arrested four people after activists of the activity-banned Awami League brought out a sudden procession and exploded several cocktails in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area on Saturday.

The incident occurred around 12:00pm in front of the Bata showroom on Satmasjid Road under the banner of the Mohammadpur Thana unit of the banned political party.

According to witnesses and police, the procession started on Satmasjid Road, proceeded past Ibne Sina Hospital, and concluded near the Bata showroom, where several crude bombs were set off in quick succession.

Dhanmondi police station officer-in-charge Muhammad Imdadul Islam Tayyab confirmed the matter.
“Activists of the banned Awami League organised a flash procession and detonated crude bombs.

Three individuals were detained while attempting to flee the scene following the march, and a banner was seized,” OC Tayyab said.

Meanwhile, Abdul Halim, officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur police station, said that another suspect was apprehended in the Mohammadpur area while trying to escape after detonating crude bombs during the Dhanmondi procession.
