Training on AI, fact-checking begins at JU

A three-day training programme on multimedia, artificial intelligence (AI) and fact-checking for working campus journalists of Jahangirnagar University (JU) began on Friday.

Organised by the Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB), the programme was inaugurated by JU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Prof Dr Md Shamsul Alam at the training room of the university’s Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) at 10am.

Speaking at the inaugural session, Prof Shamsul Alam said the training would focus on the positive and effective use of AI.

“Today’s training will provide guidance on how we can use AI methods for our benefit,” he said, reports BSS.

Referring to the role of journalists in raising their voices against irregularities and injustices at the university, he said journalists had always played a leading role in highlighting various injustices, irregularities and inconsistencies at JU.

“Journalists have also played an important role in bringing changes at different levels of the university,” he said.

Nazia Afrin Monami, adjunct faculty member of the Department of Media Studies and Journalism (MSJ) at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), PIB trainer Jilhas Uddin Nipun, JU Journalists’ Association President Mah Alam and JU Press Club President S M Tawhid, among others, attended the inaugural session.
