Stocks rebound as DSEX gains 55.9 points
The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) rebounded strongly on Wednesday as investors renewed buying interest in selective attractive stocks, helping the broad DSEX index gain 55.9 points amid ongoing concerns over the market outlook and economic challenges.
The DSEX settled at 5,596 points, up from 5,540 points in the previous trading session.
The market opened on a firm note and maintained its upward momentum throughout the session, with price appreciation in most traded securities pushing the major indices into positive territory.
Market turnover also increased 6.7 per cent to Tk 840cr, compared with Tk 790cr in the previous session, indicating higher participation by investors.
Among the sectors, Textiles accounted for the largest share of turnover at 19.9 per cent, followed by Pharmaceuticals at 16.8 per cent and General Insurance at 11.8 per cent.
Most sectors posted positive returns. Travel recorded the highest gain of 5.6 per cent, followed by Paper and Printing at 5.0 per cent and Life Insurance at 3.1 per cent.
On the other hand, Mutual Funds declined 2.4 per cent and General Insurance fell 0.5 per cent.
Of the 395 issues traded, prices of 246 advanced, 100 declined, while 49 remained unchanged.
The Chattogram Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed higher. Its CSCX and CASPI gained 38.3 points and 54.9 points, respectively.
