Sammilito Islami Bank customers apply to withdraw Tk6,975cr in 20 days

A total of 1,79,682 customers of Sammilito Islami Bank applied to withdraw Tk6,975 crore for various needs between 1 September and 20 September, according to data provided by the bank’s Public Relations Department on Monday.

Of the total applicants, 90,098 clients were able to withdraw a combined amount of Tk3,245 crore during this period.

Meanwhile, the bank received Tk2,700 crore in fresh deposits during the same timeframe.

Additionally, 32,074 new accounts were opened, bringing in an additional Tk378 crore in new deposits.
Before that, on 25 August, a meeting was held between Bangladesh Bank Governor Md Mostaqur Rahman and top officials, where they decided that depositors of Sammilito Islami Bank could withdraw their money from 1 September.

On 7 September, Sammilito Islami Bank began repaying the depositors of the five banks folded into it last year.

In its first three days, it paid out Tk319 crore, Tk340 crore, and Tk381 crore against inflows of Tk141 crore and Tk195 crore.

Sammilito Islami Bank was formed through the merger of five Islamic banking institutions: First Security Islami Bank, EXIM Bank, Social Islami Bank, Global Islami Bank, and Union Bank.

It was founded last year under the Bank Resolution Ordinance 2025 (Bank Resolution Act 2026).
