Dengue prevention drive launched
Feni-1 Lawmaker Rafiqul Islam Majnu inaugurated a programme in Feni as part of the Prime Minister’s nationwide dengue prevention and cleanliness drive-2026.
Under the slogan, “Let’s build a clean Feni, safe Feni, dengue-free Feni; let’s all be aware together,” the dengue prevention and cleanliness drive was inaugurated on Saturday under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mahbubul Karim.
District Council Administrator Professor M A Khalek, Superintendent of Police Pratyush Kumar Majumder, Deputy Director of the Local Government Division and Administrator of Feni Municipality Nuruddin Muhammad Shibli Noman, Additional District Magistrate Fatima Sultana, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) A K M Faisal, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Rifat Asma, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mohammad Al-Amin Sarkar and senior officials of the administration attended the programme.
With the overall support of Feni Municipality, its Executive Engineer Md Zakir Uddin, Executive Officer Md Shamsuddin, Medical Officer Dr Krishna Pad Saha, officials and employees of various levels of the municipality, sanitation workers and leaders of various voluntary organisations were also present.
A rally was held at the beginning of the programme with the slogan, “Maintain cleanliness to prevent dengue. Be aware yourself, make others aware and keep your surroundings clean.”
Following the Prime Minister’s call, a special anti-dengue cleanliness drive was launched simultaneously across the country last Saturday.
As the Member of Parliament for the Feni-1 constituency, Rafiqul Islam Majnu said dengue prevention should not be limited to government programmes; rather, it is a social responsibility to protect the lives and health of everyone.
“Aedes mosquitoes do not distinguish between friends and enemies when they bite. These mosquitoes breed in stagnant clean water that remains in our courtyards, rooftops or flower pots for as little as three days. Therefore, we must take responsibility for cleaning our surroundings at least once a week to keep our families and neighbours safe,” he said.
“With today’s inauguration, cleanliness activities and mosquito-control campaigns will be further strengthened in every upazila, municipality and union of Feni district. However, alongside the administration, youths, teachers and social organisations must come forward as volunteers,” he added.
He called on everyone to pledge together: “We will remain aware, keep our surroundings clean and take an oath to make Feni dengue-free.”
