Asif denies allegations

Former interim government adviser and National Citizen Party (NCP) spokesperson Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain has denied allegations of corruption, irregularities, abuse of power and money laundering against him as the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) decided to investigate the claims.

Meanwhile, The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday decided to investigate the fresh allegations of money laundering, widespread irregularities and financial transactions involving transfers against Asif Mahmud.

The allegations include laundering a large amount of money abroad and building assets in Portugal, Dubai, Singapore, Australia and Swiss bank.

Asif rejected the allegations at a press conference at Banglamotor in Dhaka on Sunday afternoon.
“When we saw that the ordinance issued to reform the ACC had been scrapped, we understood why and how the commission would be used,” he said.

The ACC decided to investigate the allegations against Asif, according to report BSS.

ACC Assistant Director for Public Relations Md Tanzir Ahmed disclosed the decision at the commission’s regular media briefing on Sunday.

The investigation will cover allegations of corruption, irregularities, abuse of power and money laundering, according to the ACC. Asif, who served as an adviser to the interim government and is currently a spokesperson for the NCP, however, dismissed the allegations while questioning the circumstances surrounding the ACC’s decision.
