4 killed in CNG-pickup van collision in Gazipur
Four people, including a mother and her son, were killed in a head-on collision between a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a covered van in Kaliakair, Gazipur, on Saturday morning.
The accident occurred around 11:30am on the Kaliakair-Fulbaria-Mawna regional road in Kanchanpur.
The deceased were Nasima Begum, 45, wife of Hashem Mia, and her son Asadul Islam, 18, both from Bongkhuri in Mirzapur, Tangail; CNG driver Shakil; and Khokon Shikder of Banglabazar. Police and witnesses said the CNG auto-rickshaw was travelling from Kaliakair towards Mawna Chourasta in Sreepur with four passengers. When it reached the Chairman Bari area of Kanchanpur, it collided head-on with a covered van coming from the opposite direction.
Five people, including the CNG driver, were seriously injured in the crash.
The injured were taken to Kaliakair Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared two dead. Two others later died while undergoing treatment.
Kaliakair Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahidul Islam said the road is accident-prone and accidents occur there frequently.
The bodies were recovered and sent to a hospital for autopsy, he added.
