Boccia Games court at CRP

A new horizon of possibilities has opened up for para-sports in Bangladesh.

A Boccia court was inaugurated at the premises of the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) in Savar, under the initiative of the National Paralympic Committee of Bangladesh (NPC Bangladesh) on Saturday.

Founder of CRP, Sister Valerie A. Taylor was present as chief guest at the inaugural ceremony.

Vice-President of NPC Bangladesh and a former cricketer of the Bangladesh national team, Md. Sanowar Hossain inaugurated the Boccia games court.

Dr. Maruf Ahmed Mridul, Secretary General of NPC Bangladesh, delivered the welcome address at the event. Dr. Mohammad Sohrab Hossain, Executive Member of NPC Bangladesh and Executive Director of CRP, presided over the ceremony.

Special guests present at the event included Md. Hedayetul Aziz, Deputy Secretary General of NPC Bangladesh; Md. Asiful Hasan Masud, Treasurer; Farida Akter Asma, Executive Member; and Md. Tanvir Ahmed, General Secretary and Organizer of Asia Para Archery.

Speakers at the event emphasized, the development of specialised para-sports like Boccia is crucial for ensuring an inclusive, world-class sports environment for persons with disabilities.

This new court will play a significant role in Boccia training, talent scouting, and the development of skilled para-athletes.

Stakeholders anticipate that the court, established through the joint collaboration of NPC Bangladesh and CRP, will become a key hub for the regular practice and skill development of Boccia players.

Boccia is a para-sport in which athletes with physical impairments compete using strategy, control, and precision.

Although the scope of the sport remains limited in Bangladesh, the establishment of this new court will expand opportunities for training and talent development.
