Chinese man found dead in Uttara

Police have recovered the body of a 40-year-old Chinese national from a residential hotel in Dhaka’s Uttara, with investigators suspecting excessive alcohol consumption as the possible cause of death.

The deceased was identified as Li Xingqiang, who had been staying in Room 905 of Bengal Hotel and Hospitality Limited in Sector 3 of Uttara.

Md Khalid Mansur, officer-in-charge of Uttara West Police Station, said police recovered the body at around 9am on Saturday after being informed about the incident.

According to the police official, three other Chinese nationals staying in two separate rooms at the hotel went to Li’s room and found him lying on the floor.

They then informed the hotel authorities, who alerted police. Officers subsequently went to the room and recovered the body.

Police suspect that Li may have died after consuming an excessive amount of alcohol. However, Khalid said the actual cause of death would be confirmed after a post-mortem examination.

The OC said the hotel did not have a licence to sell or allow the consumption of alcohol on its premises.
He added that “necessary action” would be taken over the matter.

Police are also investigating when Li arrived in Dhaka and the purpose of his visit. Relevant authorities have been informed about the incident, Khalid said.
