3 B’desh MPs to join climate legislation summit in Washington

A three-member parliament delegation left here on Monday for USA to join the 2nd GLOBE Climate Legislation Summit scheduled to be held in Washington DC on 27th-28th February.
The delegation members are Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad Iqbalur Rahim and Mahbub Ara Gini. Legislators from over 50 countries will attend the Climate Legislation Summit to be hosted by Senator Edward Markey in the Senate of the USA.
In the high-level opening session, senior officers of the United Nations and World Bank will join 100 legislators to receive the findings of the 4th edition of the GLOBE Climate Legislation Study (now expanded to cover progress on climate legislation in 66 countries).
Following the Study publication, the President of the Mexican Congress, President Ricardo Anaya Cortes, Chairman of the South African National Assembly, Hon Cedric Frolick MP will join the President of GLOBE International, Rt Hon. John Gummer, Lord Deben, to launch the Partnership For Climate Legislation. The Partnership to be backed by the UN and World Bank, will support national legislators to develop, pass and implement national laws on climate change and forestry/REDD+. Keynote Speakers include: UN Assistant Secretary-General, Robert Orr, World Bank President, Jim Yong Kim, World Bank Vice President and Special Envoy for Climate Change, Rachel Kyte, United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Executive Secretary, Christiana Figueres, UNEP Executive Director, Achim Steiner, USA Special Envoy for Climate Change, Todd Stern and Ricardo Anaya Cortes.
Following the Study and Partnership launching legislators will present case studies of their national developments. This will be followed by a dialogue about how national legislation can contribute to an international climate agreement to be agreed in Paris 2015.
