Health officials urge to expand mr vaccination coverage
Civil Surgeon Dr Mosammat Mahfuza Khatun stressed the need to strengthen household-level verification to ensure herd immunity against measles and called for increased public awareness among parents to boost vaccine uptake.
A district-level coordination meeting at the conference room of the Khulna Civil Surgeon’s Office on Wednesday, to accelerate the ongoing measles-rubella (MR) vaccination campaign, which has already reached 89 percent of its target.
The campaign, running from April 20 to May 10, 2026, aims to administer a single dose of the MR vaccine to all children aged between six months and under five years.
Highlighting the importance of collective effort, she urged all stakeholders including mosque imams and muazzins to actively support awareness campaigns.
Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Md Mizanur Rahman delivered the welcome address, while Dr Nazmur Rahman Sajib, Medical Officer of the World Health Organization, presented detailed information on the MR vaccine.
Officials from various government departments, upazila nirbahi officers, and upazila health and family planning officers attended the meeting.
The campaign targets vaccinating 156,420 children across nine upazilas in Khulna district. Vaccination activities are being conducted daily from 8:00am to 4:00pm, excluding government holidays.
