Dolly Parton, queen of country music, dies at 80

Dolly Parton, one of the greatest singer-songwriters in country music, who was also much cherished for her philanthropy, has died aged 80. Dolly Parton’s family announced the news in a statement.

In a musical career spanning more than five decades, Dolly became one of the most popular and influential artists in the United States.

She wrote more than three thousand songs. Among them, the song ‘Coat of Many Colours’ was an emotional expression of her love for her mother.

The songs ‘Jolene’ and ‘I Will Always Love You’ depicted feelings of love and separation.

The song ‘Nine to Five’ was written for the film of the same name. Dolly also acted in that film. The song later became one of the symbols of the women’s and working people’s rights movement in the United States.

Dolly released 49 albums, won 11 Grammy Awards, and achieved success on the pop charts. Her song ‘Islands in the Stream’ with Kenny Rogers was also a huge hit.
