BPJA marks World Photography Day
The Bangladesh Photo Journalist Association (BPJA) observed World Photography Day on Wednesday with a colourful procession in Dhaka, highlighting the importance of photography and the rights and safety of photojournalists.
The procession began in front of the BPJA office in Purana Paltan, moved through the Dainik Bangla intersection and returned to the starting point.
BPJA acting president Mashiur Rahman Sumon and acting general secretary Delwar Hossain Badal led the procession, which was joined by association members and photojournalists from various national and international media outlets.
Participants carried colourful festoons and banners highlighting the significance of World Photography Day, as well as messages calling for professional dignity, safety and rights for photojournalists.
The event took on a festive mood as colourful smoke was released along the procession route, drawing enthusiasm from participants, many of whom captured the moments through their cameras.
Organisers said photographs do more than record moments-they preserve the realities of time and history. A single image can often tell the story of an event, society or human experience more powerfully than words, making photojournalists an essential part of news gathering.
They also noted that photojournalists often work at considerable personal risk while covering national crises, movements, natural disasters and political and social events. Ensuring their safety and protecting their professional dignity, they said, should therefore remain a priority.
The event aimed to demonstrate the unity and commitment of the country’s photojournalists while underscoring the wider importance of photography in documenting society and history.
