3 arrested over garage owner’s murder

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-13) has arrested three people, including a woman, within 24 hours in connection with the murder of a battery-run auto-rickshaw garage owner in Rangpur.

RAB-13 Senior Assistant Director Biplob Kumar Goswami confirmed the arrests in a press release sent to the media on Friday.

The arrested individuals are Dulal Mia, 45, son of Haider Ali of Purba Khasbagh area in Mahiganj, Rangpur city; Firoza Begum, 55, daughter of Nasir Uddin of Votmari village in Kaliganj upazila of Lalmonirhat; and Rezaul Islam, 55, son of Mahir Uddin of the same village.

According to RAB, the bloody body of Abdur Rahman, 65, was recovered from an auto-rickshaw garage in the Ansari Mor area of Tajhat Babup area in Rangpur city on Thursday morning. He was allegedly hacked to death sometime on Wednesday night.

The victim’s family filed a murder case with Tajhat Police Station following the incident.

RAB-13 said it intensified intelligence surveillance to uncover the circumstances of the murder. Based on specific intelligence information, Dulal was arrested around 1:30am on Thursday.

while Firoza and Rezaul were arrested around 4:30am.
RAB said the three suspects confessed during preliminary interrogation to their involvement in the murder.

According to RAB, Firoza’s husband died about two years ago. Dulal used to rent an auto-rickshaw from Abdur Rahman’s garage and drive it.

About five to six months ago, Abdur Rahman’s wife divorced him and left. Taking advantage of the situation, Dulal allegedly took financial benefit and secretly arranged Abdur Rahman’s marriage to Firoza, acting as an intermediary.

Five to seven days after the marriage, Abdur Rahman allegedly physically and mentally abused Firoza. She subsequently said she would not continue the marriage.

Seven days before the murder, Dulal allegedly mediated a divorce between Abdur Rahman and Firoza in exchange for Tk 100,000. He also allegedly kept Tk 50,000 from Firoza’s dower money on various pretexts.
