Fakhrul’s road to Bangabhaban

1960s: Became involved in student politics at DU and was arrested in 1969.

1972: Began his career as an economics lecturer at Dhaka College.

1979–82: Served as private secretary to then Deputy Prime Minister SA Bari.

1986: Resigned from govt service

1990s: Joined the BNP

2001: Elected MP from Thakurgaon-1 and became a state minister.

2011: Became acting secretary general 2016: Appointed BNP secretary general.

2022: Arrested over the Nayapaltan clashes and released on bail in January 2023.

2023: Arrested again.

2026: Elected MP from Thakurgaon-1 and became LGRD minister.

August 13, 2026: BNP nominated Fakhrul for the 23rd presidential election.
