Hannan comments about Soumya’s inclusion
Soumya Sarkar – was called up to the Bangladesh Cricket squad quite suddenly, and then quietly dropped.

On Tuesday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in the capital’s Mirpur, Hannan Sarkar said, “Soumya performed even when he last played in the NCL.
He knows how to play a long innings. Along with that, if Tanzid Hasan and Amite Hasan can adapt to Australia, then they can become big players.”
Soumya Sarkar last played in this version against the West Indies in SBNCS in February 2021. Soumya was mainly included in the team with the idea of handling Australia’s pace.
Chief Selector Habibul Bashar also said this after the announcement of the Bangladesh Test squad for the first Test against Australia.
He said, ‘Soumya Sarkar has been playing international cricket for a long time. He is used to playing the pace that we think he plays in Australia.
We also thought about other openers, but unfortunately at the moment our right-handed opener is not very ready.
The ones we are working with are completely new. It will be a little difficult for them to actually tour Australia.’
The last time Bangladesh went to play a Test on Australian soil was in 2003. Hannan Sarkar was also in that team, “23 years ago, naturally, very old memories. I had only been in the national team for a year, then I got the Australia tour.
When I say memories, playing against Australia on Australian soil was a huge thing. Because we know, at that time, Australia were the champions team, dominating world cricket.
Australia are definitely still counted as the top team, but things were a little different back then.”
“At that time, I have to say, it was the best bowling attack. Although the only name I say is Shane Warne, he did not play in that Test series.

The first Test between Bangladesh and Australia will be played at the Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin from August 13 to August 17. Then the second and final Test will be held at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay from August 22 to August 26.
