BMCS technical seminar for maritime professionals held in Singapore
The Bangladeshi Marine Community, Singapore (BMCS) successfully hosted its Technical Seminar 2026 at Devan Nair Institute for Employment and Employability, Hall 3, Singapore, on Sunday.
The seminar brought together maritime professionals, BMCS members, and aspiring marine engineers to discuss two of the most significant challenges and opportunities shaping the future of the maritime industry-cyber security and alternative marine fuels. BMCS members attended the seminar in person, while the faculty members and cadets of Bangladesh Marine Academy joined the event online.
The seminar featured two distinguished keynote speakers from Bureau Veritas. Riccardo Barbiellini, Future Shipping Team Manager, delivered an insightful presentation on “Cyber security and Risk Management,” highlighting the growing cyber threats facing the shipping industry and the importance of effective risk management strategies to enhance the resilience of maritime operations.
The second keynote presentation focused on “Readiness of Ethanol as Marine Fuel,” providing participants with valuable insights into ethanol’s potential as a sustainable marine fuel.
and its contribution to the shipping industry’s decarburization pathway toward achieving the IMO’s greenhouse gas reduction targets.
The seminar was professionally moderated by BMCS Professional Secretary, MarEngr Abu Hasan Rony, MSc, CEng, CMarEng, MIMarESTwho facilitated the technical sessions and interactive discussions. BMCS Secretary, MarEngr Ali Gauher Shahrier, MBA, CEng, CMarEng, MIMarEST, delivered the closing remarks and expressed his sincere appreciation to the distinguished speakers, participants, organizers, volunteers, and online attendees for making the seminar a success.
In his welcome address, BMCS President, MarEngr Mohammad Shakhawat Hossain, MSc, MBA, CEng, CMarEng MIMarEST, warmly welcomed the distinguished speakers, BMCS members, Bangladesh Marine Academy faculty and cadets, volunteers, and all participants. He expressed his gratitude to the speakers for sharing their valuable knowledge and expertise and thanked the organizing committee and volunteers for their dedication in arranging such a timely and informative seminar for the maritime community.
The seminar concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, where participants exchanged ideas with the speakers on cybersecurity preparedness, future fuel technologies, regulatory developments, and practical challenges in implementing sustainable shipping solutions.
Through this technical seminar, BMCS reaffirmed its commitment to promoting professional development, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning among maritime professionals while supporting the industry’s transition toward a safer, smarter, and more sustainable future.
