’36 July result of united democratic struggle’

Water Resources Minister Md. Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee on Sunday said that “36 July” symbolizes the outcome of a united movement and prolonged struggle against authoritarian rule.

“The foundation of the July movement had been built through 16 years of resistance against what he described as an authoritarian regime,” he said.

He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion titled “The Sacrifice of the Martyrs, Our Responsibility, and a New Bangladesh” at the Central Kochi-Kachar Mela auditorium at Segunbagicha, reports BSS.

The event was organized by the Jagrata July Forum.

He said the united participation of students, teachers, poets, writers, professionals, and people from all walks of life culminated in the events of August 5, when former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled the country. “The students who sacrificed their lives to establish the rights of the people have left us deeply indebted,” Anee said.

He continued: “It is now our responsibility to repay that debt by ensuring the political and economic empowerment of the people and by building a democratic Bangladesh founded on equality, human dignity, and social justice.”

Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment State Minister Md Nurul Hoque attended the programme as the key speaker, while Liberation War Affairs State Minister Ishraque Hossain participated as a special discussant.

Anee also emphasized the importance of respecting differing opinions in a Bangladesh free from fascism, saying the country should move forward through dialogue rather than division.
