Gerhardt returns as Bangladesh hockey team coach
Newly-appointed Bangladesh national hockey team head coach Peter Gerhard arrived in Dhaka on Friday to take the charge of the national hockey team.
He was received a warm welcome from officials of the Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA).
The experienced German coach has been appointed to help raise the standard of Bangladesh hockey and further strengthen the national team’s performances on the international stage.
Gerhard is expected to begin working with the players currently attending the Asian Games training camp without delay.
Speaking briefly upon his arrival in Dhaka, he expressed confidence in the potential of the Bangladesh team.
“In my opinion, the team is much better than the results they achieved in the recent tournaments. We have to improve the current situation, and that is exactly what we’ll work on,” the German coach said.
Referring to the challenges ahead and the long-term rewards, he added, “The players will have to go through a very tough period over the coming weeks and work extremely hard. But in the end, they will enjoy the rewards of that hard
work.”
Recalling his long association with Bangladesh hockey, the German coach also wished the federation’s new leadership success.
Gerhard has previously served as head coach of the Bangladesh national hockey team on several occasions.
