July uprising continuation of 17-yr-long movement
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said that the backdrop for the July 2024 mass uprising was created as a result of a continuous movement and struggle spanning 17 years.
He stated that the resistance and protests led by school and college students in July 2024 would remain a memorable chapter in the country’s political history.
He asserted that the fascist regime came to an end through the self-sacrifice of countless students and youths.
He made these remarks while speaking to journalists at the BNP’s central office in the capital’s Nayapaltan area on Wednesday afternoon.
Rizvi stated that the people of the country had long been agitating for freedom of speech, personal liberty, press freedom, and civil rights.
He asserted that a desire for change had emerged as a continuation of the movement led by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
According to Rizvi, the July movement culminated on August 5. He asserts that the 36-day movement led to the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government and the end of autocratic rule.
He announced that the BNP has organized a discussion meeting at the capital’s Krishibid Institution on August 4 to commemorate the July mass uprising and the events of August 5.
Party Chairman Tarique Rahman will attend the event as the chief guest, while BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will preside over it.
Referring to the recent situation in Habiganj, Rizvi stated that maintaining a peaceful political environment in the country is essential.
He urged all political parties to express their views within a democratic framework and using civil language, noting that provocative statements and propaganda could incite conflict.
Leaders from various levels of the party were present on the occasion, including BNP Assistant Publicity Secretary Asadul Karim Shahin, Assistant Cultural Affairs Secretary Sayeed Sohrab, and Central Chhatra Dal Vice-President Dr. Tauhidur Rahman Awal.
