Mosharraf Hossain new CID chief

Barrister Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain, Additional Inspector General of Police (Addl IGP), on Wednesday formally assumed charge as the chief of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), bringing nearly 30 years of experience in policing, investigations, intelligence and administration to the country’s premier investigative agency.

Mosharraf officially took over as CID chief following his appointment through a notification issued by the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs on June 28.

Before joining the CID, he served on deputation as Director of the National Security Intelligence (NSI), where he was promoted to the rank of Additional Inspector General of Police.

A member of the 15th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) cadre, Mosharraf began his career in Bangladesh Police as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in 1995.

Over nearly three decades, he has served in a wide range of operational, investigative, intelligence, training and administrative assignments across the police force.

His professional career also includes several important postings at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah, where he contributed to training, research and curriculum development.

Mosharraf has extensive experience within the CID, having previously served as Superintendent of Police at the agency’s headquarters as well as in its Chattogram and Cumilla units.

At the field level, he also served as Superintendent of Police in Pirojpur and Chapainawabganj districts.
Senior CID officials, including deputy inspectors general, additional deputy inspectors general, superintendents of police and additional superintendents of police, welcomed the newly appointed CID chief at the ceremony.

Mosharraf earned a Master’s degree in Economics from Islamic University in Kushtia before completing his Bar-at-Law at City University London in the United Kingdom. His appointment comes as the CID continues its role in leading complex criminal investigations across the country.
