2 killed as wall collapses in Mirpur

Two people were killed and at least eight others injured when a boundary wall collapsed near Mirpur University College in the capital on Tuesday afternoon, police said.
The incident occurred in the Love Road-Mandir Road area while people were queuing to buy subsidised goods from the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh.
The deceased were identified as Nasima Begum, a resident of Janata Housing in Mirpur-2, and an unidentified man.
Witnesses said a large number of people were standing beside the college wall when it suddenly collapsed, trapping several men and women beneath the debris.
Local residents immediately launched rescue efforts. Police and fire service personnel later joined them and took the injured to different hospitals.
Doctors declared Nasima dead after she was taken to hospital in critical condition.
Mirpur Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Hafizur Rahman confirmed the two deaths and said at least eight people had been injured.
