New species of flower named after Zubin Garg

After his death, the memory of Zubin Garg has become even more deeply intertwined with the soil, nature and emotions of the people of North-East India.

Earlier, this popular musician from Assam was remembered through the names of butterflies, trees and elephant calves.

Now, a new species of lily flower discovered in Shillong has been named after Zubin Garg.

Researchers at the Botanical Survey of India’s Botanical Garden in Shillong, Meghalaya, first identified the flower in 2018.

They conducted taxonomic research on the plant for several years.

After extensive testing, they confirmed that it was a completely new species.
