New investment impossible sans improved law and order

Says Home Minister

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said a strong law-and-order system is the foundation of sustainable economic growth and industrialization.

Investors always want to invest their capital in a safe and favorable environment, and even minor concerns about the safety of life and property cause both foreign investors and domestic entrepreneurs to lose interest in new investment.

He said that without the desired improvement in the country’s law-and-order situation, attracting new domestic and foreign investment will not be possible.

He said a safe and stable environment is a prerequisite for investment, and that the government is working toward this goal under a zero-tolerance policy on law and order. He made these remarks Monday while responding to journalists’ questions after the formal inauguration of development work at the Chinese Economic and Industrial Zone (CEIZ) in Anwara, Chattogram.

Regarding security at special economic zones, the Home Minister said special measures have been taken to ensure security at all economic zones in the country, including CEIZ, with industrial police working alongside other law enforcement agencies providing round-the-clock coverage in industrial areas.

He warned that no form of sabotage or subversive activity would be tolerated.

Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury attended the event as chief guest. Also present were Wang Bengqian, Chairman of the Bangladesh China Economic Zone; Li Changgui, Vice President of China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC); Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh H.E. Yao Wen; Ashik Chowdhury, Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA); Deputy Minister for Land and Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Mir Helal Uddin; Chattogram-13 MP Sarwar Jamal Nizam; and local elected representatives.
