428 arrested in DMP anti-crime drives
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested 428 people and filed 50 cases during anti-crime drives conducted across the capital in the past 24 hours.
According to a DMP media release, the arrested individuals include 28 from Ramna Division, 33 from Lalbagh, 86 from Wari, 65 from Motijheel, 45 from Tejgaon, 70 from Mirpur, 39 from Gulshan and 62 from Uttara Division.
During the operations, police seized 18.25 kilograms of cannabis, 2,120 yaba tablets, 353 bottles of phensidyl syrup and three grams of heroin.
The seized items also included eight mobile phones, a Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) identity card, three walkie-talkies, a yaba-smoking pipe made from a Tk 10 note, foil paper, a black clay smoking pipe, a sharp iron cutter, a wooden stick and a vehicle.
The DMP said the drives were carried out in different areas of the capital as part of its ongoing campaign to curb criminal activities.
Legal proceedings against the arrested persons are underway, it added.
