New Navy Chief honours liberation war martyrs

Newly appointed Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Khondkar Misbah-ul-Azim on Friday paid homage to the Armed Forces personnel who embraced martyrdom during the 1971 Liberation War by placing a wreath at Shikha Anirban in Dhaka Cantonment.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Navy chief placed the wreath in memory of the heroic martyrs and later signed the visitors’ book at Shikha Anirban.

Later, the newly appointed Navy chief arrived at Naval Headquarters, where Principal Staff Officers welcomed him. A smartly turned-out contingent of the Bangladesh Navy then accorded him a guard of honour.

Vice Admiral Misbah-ul-Azim inspected the guard and received the salute in the presence of Principal Staff Officers of Naval Headquarters and senior Navy officials.

ISPR said the Navy chief is firmly committed to building the Bangladesh Navy into a strong and modern Blue Water Navy to protect the country’s vast maritime territory and promote the potential of the blue economy in line with the directives of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

It said he aims to strengthen maritime sovereignty and security through the introduction of advanced naval technologies, including modern frigates, submarines, sophisticated sonar systems and radar equipment.

Vice Admiral Khondkar Misbah-ul-Azim assumed charge as the Chief of Naval Staff on July 23.
