Accused to be brought to justice: Humayun Kabir
Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir on Saturday pledged to bring justice those responsible for the killing of journalist ATM Turab, also known as Abu Taher, who was killed during the July Movement.”
The government and opposition parties asked to raise their voices in parliament regarding Turab’s murder, he said while speaking as the chief guest held at the Aminur Rashid Chowdhury Auditorium of Sylhet Press Club on Saturday afternoon on the occasion of second martyrdom anniversary of journalist ATM Turab.
Advocate Emran Ahmed Chowdhury, Member of Parliament for Sylhet-6 constituency and District BNP General Secretary, Sylhet Development Authority Chairman Rezaul Hasan Lodi Qays Lodi, Ameer of Sylhet Metropolitan Jamaat Fakhrul Islam and General Secretary of Sylhet Metropolitan BNP Emdad Hossain Chowdhury, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) of Sylhet Saida Parveen were present as special guests.
Speaking as the chief guest, Kabir said, “We have come to this place in exchange for the blood of 1500 people in the July Movement.
The blood of martyr Turab has been shed on the soil of Sylhet.” Highlighting the delay in the trial of Turab’s murder, he said that he will personally talk to the Prime Highlighting the basic principles of journalism, he said, “Turab was martyred while trying to establish the truth.
For the past 15 years, the country was turned into information terrorism through disinformation. Currently, the political burial of the Awami League has been completed.”
He said, “The media in the country is conducting its activities independently through the past elections. Calling on journalists to take up the pen against criminals.”
“There may be differences between political parties. But we all have to be united when it comes to the country. He called for dedicating ourselves to building the country with the spirit of patriotism.”
Lawmaker Emran Ahmed Chowdhury said, “We are witnesses to the attempt to snatch Turab’s body. Our people are also accused in the case. This is a cruel reality.
He recently discussed with the Chief Prosecutor the progress of the killing of 7 innocent people from Turab and Golapganj during the July Revolution.”
Sylhet Development Authority Chairman and Sylhet Metropolitan BNP Acting President Rezaul Hasan Lodi (Kayes Lodi) expressed his concern that the trial of Turab’s murder and the investigation process of Turab’s murder will become like the Sagar Runi murder.
Metropolitan Jamaat Ameer Fakhrul Islam said that Turab gave his life to establish the truth.
He expressed anger over the lack of progress in this case.
Metropolitan BNP General Secretary Emdad Hossain Chowdhury said that this government will not tolerate any injustice.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Saeeda Parveen said, “We do not want anyone’s blood to be shed because of politics.”
The speakers were former club presidents Iqbal Siddiqui and Ikramul Kabir, senior vice-president MA Hannan, Sylhet Metropolitan Journalists Union president Mohammad Badruddoza Badar, former treasurer Kabir Ahmed Sohel, club deputy general secretary Khaled Ahmed, and acting president of the Photojournalist Association Humayun Kabir Liton. Club member Kabir Ahmed recited from the Holy Quran at the beginning.
