Legal aid saves poor litigants Tk364cr

The Directorate of Bangladesh Legal Aid Services has recovered Tk363.89 crore in compensation for insolvent justice seekers from 2009 to May 2026, helping thousands of disadvantaged people access legal remedies.

According to the directorate’s latest monthly update published on its website on Saturday, the statutory body under the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs recovered Tk356.86 crore through its 64 district legal aid offices across the country.

Another Tk7.03 crore was recovered through the directorate’s two labour legal aid cells in Dhaka and Chattogram.

The update said a total of 14,87,663 people have received legal aid since the organisation began operations in 2009. Of them, 12,20,044 beneficiaries received services through district legal aid offices.

The directorate said 2,06,703 people received legal advice through the national toll-free helpline 16699.

Meanwhile, 30,696 people received assistance from the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, according to the update.
