Biography of Shuvro Dev launched

Popular Bangladeshi musician Shuvro Dev has been brought to the pages of a book by Dr Sabrina Rubin. This internationally renowned writer, translator, lyricist, researcher, and also psychologist has written an English-language biography of Shuvro Dev, titled ‘A Golden Soul of Music’.

This biography written by Dr Sabrina Rubin has been published in New York, USA.

The book, published by the Odyssey Foundation for Art and Culture, is available at various
bookstores in New York, including Amazon. The book has been edited by internationally renowned poet Nurul Haque.

The cover of the book was unveiled in New York by West Bengal’s actress Rituparna Sengupta, who has received the All-India National Film Award.

Apart from Shuvro Dev, Dr Sabrina Rubin has previously written biographies of many talented personalities from home and abroad. She is particularly appreciated for her English poems and photo poetry on mental health in Bangladesh.

Her various books have already gained readership in various countries of the world including Bangladesh, the United States, the United Kingdom of Russia, Albania, Palestine, India, Pakistan and Turkey. She has been awarded various international awards at home and abroad. Renowned Indian vocalists Haimanti Shukla, Usha Uthup, Dev Gautam, Bangladeshi Shuvro Dev, Shan Shaikh and many other artists have sung songs written by Sabrina Rubin. She has also written songs for Indian Malayalam films.

On the other hand, Shuvro Dev has created his own place in the music scene of Bangladesh by presenting numerous popular songs for more than four decades. In recognition of his outstanding contribution to music, he was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 2024. His duet song with renowned Indian singer Alka Yagnik has been appreciated in both Bengali and English.

He became widely discussed after working with Bollywood star Aamir Khan in a Pepsi soft drink commercial. As one of the earliest artistes in Bangladesh, his songs and music videos were aired on the world-famous music satellite TV channel MTV.

Along with music, he has also acted in films and dramas. ‘A Golden Soul of Music’ is not just a biography of a musician; it is an inspiring document of Shuvro Dev’s artistry, love and creative life.
