Badiur Rahman new chair of AL-Arafah Islami Bank

Al-Arafah Islami Bank PLC has elected Badiur Rahman as Chairman of its Board of Directors and Alhajj Salim Rahman as Chairman of the Executive Committee.

They were elected unanimously at the 464th emergency meeting of the Bank’s Board of Directors on Thursday.

Badiur Rahman is a sponsor director of Al-Arafah Islami Bank and a businessman with interests at home and abroad.

He is also a director of AIBL Capital Market Services Ltd, Central Hospital Ltd, Human Resources Development Company Ltd, Millennium Information Solution Ltd and HURDCO International School. He is associated with several social welfare organisations.

Following his election, Badiur Rahman said he had first been entrusted with leading the Bank as chairman in 2008, when it was under the supervision of an observer appointed by Bangladesh Bank.
“Alhamdulillah, by successfully overcoming those challenges and with the unwavering support and cooperation of all concerned, we were able to lead the Bank towards sustained growth and prosperity during my eight-year tenure as chairman,” he said.

He said Bangladesh Bank had again appointed an observer to Al-Arafah Islami Bank in 2026 and that he had been entrusted with leading the Board at a challenging time.

“With the cooperation of the Board, management, employees, regulators and all stakeholders, I will strive to discharge this responsibility with sincerity, dedication and integrity,” he said.

“Insha’Allah, just as we overcame challenges in the past, Al-Arafah Islami Bank will recover, regain its momentum and move forward on the path of sustainable growth,” he added.

Alhajj Salim Rahman is associated with KDS Group’s textile, steel, logistics, finance and investment divisions. He is also the First Vice-President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).

He previously served as Chairman of Al-Arafah Islami Bank in 2021 and 2024.
