DMP arrests 401 in 24-hour crime crackdown

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 401 suspected criminals and filed 50 cases during a series of anti-crime operations conducted across the capital in the 24 hours ending Thursday.

The drives also led to the seizure of a large quantity of narcotics, vehicles, mobile phones and other items, while police rescued one victim.

According to a DMP press release on Friday, the arrests included 44 by Ramna Division, 26 by Lalbagh Division, 42 by Wari Division, 41 by Motijheel Division, 31 by Tejgaon Division, 119 by Mirpur Division, 47 by Gulshan Division, 38 by Uttara Division and 13 by the Detective Branch.

During the operations, police recovered 25,109 yaba tablets, 20.95 kilograms of cannabis, one battery-powered auto-rickshaw, 83 mobile phones, one banner bearing an Awami League slogan, five playing cards, two microbuses, 6,600 SIM cards and one laptop.

Police also rescued one victim during the drives.

The DMP said legal proceedings had been initiated against all those arrested.
