The devastating earthquake on June 24 has completely destroyed Venezuela’s education system. Colombian pop queen Shakira has urged world leaders to come forward to rebuild the country’s education sector at this critical moment.
In a video message recently published on her Instagram handle, she called for this global solidarity on behalf of the ‘FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund’ campaign. The campaign is being run with the aim of raising $100 million in global education aid as part of the legacy of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In a video message, Shakira said that more than 430 schools in Venezuela have been completely destroyed by two powerful earthquakes, making it uncertain whether thousands of children will be able to return to the classroom when schools reopen in September.
To address this crisis, urgent funds are needed to rebuild schools, train teachers, and buy books, notebooks, and essential educational materials for students. As an initial step, the fund will immediately provide $500,000 to local and international education organisations in Venezuela. In a video message.
