N’ganj Zila Parishad honours bright students
The Narayanganj Zila Parishad has honoured students currently studying at the University of Dhaka in the 2024-25 and 2025-26 academic sessions, as well as students who excelled in various categories in the 2026 SSC examinations.
The reception and educational assistance programme was held at the Narayanganj Zila Parishad office at noon on Wednesday (September 9). A total of 71 meritorious students were presented with crests and one-time financial assistance. Each student was also given a fruit-bearing sapling.
The programme was chaired by Mashfakur Rahman, chief executive officer of the Narayanganj Zila Parishad, while Professor Mamun Mahmud, administrator of the Parishad, attended as the chief guest. Council Secretary Ramananda Pal conducted the programme.
Assistant Engineer Nahid Islam and other relevant officials were also present.
Speaking as the chief guest, Professor Mamun Mahmud said the Narayanganj Zila Parishad has undertaken various programmes, including initiatives to encourage students and support the development of talent.
“Narayanganj has lagged behind in several areas, particularly education and employment. Yet we have the potential to lead. It is from this belief that we have taken up this programme,” he said.
Congratulating the students, he said, “We are proud of your achievements.
The Narayanganj Zila Parishad stands beside meritorious students and will continue to do so. We want a positive Narayanganj, not a negative Narayanganj.”
He further said the negative perception surrounding Narayanganj, created over the years by various incidents and activities, must be changed through the efforts of talented young people.
He expressed hope that Narayanganj would one day top the district rankings in board examinations.
Professor Mamun Mahmud said talented individuals in education, industry, literature and culture would be identified and honoured, adding that the council’s support for meritorious students would continue.
In his presidential address, Chief Executive Officer Mashfakur Rahman said, “We must learn to question ourselves. We must understand ourselves. We should try to learn and understand everything from within ourselves.”
Baizid Ibn Obayed, who passed the recently concluded SSC examination with 1,202 marks, said “It is a matter of pride for me to receive this recognition from the district council of my own district. My parents and teachers have played an immense role in my achievement.”
Amit Hasan, a student of the Management Department at the University of Dhaka, said, “I have never seen an initiative like this before. It is a great source of joy and inspiration for us. We are grateful to the district council for taking such an initiative.”
The students attended the programme along with their parents.
