‘Police-public co-op key to curb drugs’

Md Ashik Sayeed, Deputy Inspector General of Police of the Rajshahi Range and the keynote speaker at the meeting, said mutual trust and cooperation between the police and the public are necessary to create a society free from drugs and terrorism.

He emphasised that political leaders, public representatives, community leaders and teachers must come forward to help build such a society and cooperate with the police. He also stressed the importance of abiding by the country’s laws and warned against taking the law into one’s own hands.

The chief guest, Md Abdul Aziz, Member of Parliament for the Natore-4 constituency, highlighted the important role families and teachers play in keeping young people and students away from criminal activities.

He emphasised the need to keep students away from drugs, noting that drug-addicted students often drop out of school and become involved in various crimes, thereby hindering the development of society and the nation.

He urged guardians to keep a close watch on whether their children are becoming involved in drugs or online gambling.

The keynote speaker and chief guest made these remarks on Sunday at a community policing meeting on drugs and terrorism held at the Baraigram Upazila Parishad auditorium in Natore.

The meeting was organised by Baraigram Police Station and presided over by Shobhan Chandra Hor, Additional Superintendent of Police (Baraigram Circle).

The meeting was also addressed by Md Shafiqul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Baraigram Police Station; Alhaj Principal Md Lutfar Rahman, President of the Upazila Policing Committee; Freedom Fighter Sardar Boyete Reza; and Alhaj Md Saifur Rahman, President of Baraigram Smart Press Club.
