Armeen Musa is a member of Grammy

Bangladeshi singer-songwriter, composer and music director Armeen Musa has been inducted into the Recording Academy of the United States, the organisation that organises the Grammy Awards, the most prestigious music awards. She herself confirmed the news on Sunday night. Armin Musa’s relationship with Grammy is not new.

The song ‘Jago Piya’ from Berklee Indian Ensemble’s ‘Shuruat’, which was nominated for Best Global Music Album at the 65th Grammy Awards, was written by Armeen Musa’s mother, renowned Nazrul musician Nasheed Kamal.

Armeen Musa, a former student of Berklee College of Music in the United States, has sung the song in her own tune. This is the first time in the history of Grammys that a song by a Bangladeshi artiste and songwriter has been nominated.

Armeen Musa said, “I am delighted to announce that I am now a member of the Recording Academy.

Through this, I have been able to join a global community of the best in music. As a result, I will have the opportunity to celebrate musical excellence and contribute to the selection and evaluation process of the Grammy Awards.

For me, this is another step forward – on the path to connecting myself, my culture, and my Bangladesh more deeply with the rest of the world. Because I believe that the whole world is my home.”

The Recording Academy recently invited more than 4,000 new members from around the world, many of whom will now be eligible to participate in the Grammy Awards voting and selection process.

To become a voting member of the Recording Academy, a musician must have at least 12 commercially published and verifiable works in a specific creative profession, at least five of which must have been in the past five years.

In addition, two industries – related recommendations are required. However, artists nominated at the last Grammy Awards are eligible for direct membership without any recommendations.

The new additions will bring the total membership of the Recording Academy to nearly 20,000. Of these, more than 15,000 members will be eligible to vote in the Grammy Awards.

The 69th Grammy Awards will be held on February 7 next year.
