KUET workshop focuses on higher education
A day-long workshop was held at Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) on Monday to enhance teachers’ digital skills and promote the effective use of modern technology in higher education and research.
The workshop, titled “Workshop on Empowering Educators through Digital Knowledge Enhancement under the HEAT Project,” was organised under the Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT) Project, being implemented by the University Grants Commission (UGC), with technical support from the Bangladesh Research and Education Network (BdREN).
The workshop began at 9:30am at the conference room of the university’s Administrative Building, with teachers and officials from different departments of KUET taking part.
Vice-Chancellor of KUET Professor Dr Muhammad Mashud attended the inaugural session as the chief guest. Professor Dr Md Zahirul Islam, chairman of KUET’s Central Computer Centre, chaired the programme.
Director of KUET’s Institute of Information and Communication Technology (IICT) Professor Dr Ashraful Gani Bhuiyan, KUET Registrar Engineer Md Anisur Rahman Bhuiyan, and HEAT Project Deputy Project Director Professor Md Asaduzzaman addressed the session as special guests.
BdREN General Manager (System and Services) Khandaker Rashedul Arefin presented the keynote paper. The inaugural session was moderated by BdREN Sales Manager Biplab Chandra Mohanta.
The technical sessions that followed focused on five key modules related to the use of technology in higher education.
Professor Dr Mohammad Shafiul Alam Khan, technical specialist of the HEAT Project, and Md Ariful Islam Arman of BdREN discussed cyber security awareness, data protection and ways to tackle emerging cyber threats.
Khandaker Rashedul Arefin and Abu Naser Md Nafiu discussed the effective use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in education and research.
Ahmed Al Hossain, assistant manager (Knowledge and Research) at BdREN, highlighted the use of e-journals and electronic resources, plagiarism prevention, and strategies for maintaining the quality and originality of academic research.
A separate session on the practical applications of AI in higher education was conducted by Abu Naser Md Nafiu.
The workshop aimed to equip educators with practical digital knowledge and skills to enhance teaching, research and academic activities in line with the evolving demands of higher education.
