Three bodies were recovered Sunday morning from footpaths near two locations in the capital – beside Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and behind Dhaka University’s Amar Ekushey Hall. None of the deceased had been immediately identified.
A man, estimated to be around 35 years old, was found unconscious on the footpath behind DMCH’s One-Stop Emergency Center (OSEC). He was taken to the hospital, where the on-duty emergency physician declared him dead. Ward Master Ayub Ali of the emergency department said the young man’s body was kept in the hospital morgue, and since his identity remains unknown, the CID’s Crime Scene unit has been notified to help identify him, with the matter also reported to local police.
Around 11:00 AM, two more people were found unconscious on the footpath near Amar Ekushey Hall. They were also taken to DMCH, where doctors pronounced them dead. Their ages were estimated at around 50 and 60 years.
Shahbagh Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Mamun confirmed the incident, saying police recovered the two unconscious individuals from the footpath after receiving information, but they too were declared dead at DMCH’s emergency department following examination.
The SI stated that despite questioning people in the area, police were unable to identify the two individuals. Their bodies have also been placed in the hospital morgue, and the CID’s Crime unit has been notified to help establish their identities using technology. Legal proceedings related to the case are ongoing.
