The overall flood situation in Moulvibazar has improved significantly as water levels in all major rivers have receded below the danger mark following an absence of rainfall in the upstream areas.
However, one person has died and thousands of people continue to recover from the impact of the recent flooding. According to the district administration, the Manu, Dhalai, Juri and Kushiyara rivers were flowing below their respective danger levels on Sunday, allowing floodwaters to recede from many affected areas.
Residents who had taken shelter in flood shelters and on higher ground have started returning to their homes as the situation continues to normalize. Government agencies, along with private organisations and volunteers, are distributing dry food and other emergency relief among flood-affected families. The recent floods were triggered by heavy upstream rainfall and hill runoff, which breached embankments at two points on the Manu River in Tengra Union of Rajnagar upazila-at Uzirpur and Ekamdhu as well as at Shikaria in Prithimpasha Union of Kulaura upazila. The breaches allowed floodwaters to surge into low-lying areas, inundating vast stretches of land.
