3 committees formed for govt grants in film

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has formed three separate committees to manage film production activities with government grants.

This information was announced in a notification signed by the ministry’s Deputy Secretary, Sharmin Akhtar, on Thursday, said a press release.

A full-length film grant committee has been formed with Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon as its president.

The committee includes the state minister, the Prime Minister’s advisor in charge of the ministry, the secretary, the additional secretary (film), the managing director of BFDC, producer Sardar Saniat Hossain, former chair of Department of Theatre and Performance Studies of Dhaka University Prof Dr Saiful Islam, president of the Film Exhibitors’ Association Awlad Hossain and film actress Rumana Islam Mukti as its members.

The Full-Length Film Selection and Supervision Committee has been reconstituted with Additional Secretary (Film) KM Abdul Wadud as the president. Its members include the MD of BFDC, Vice Chairman of the Film Certification Board, Zahirul Islam Kochi, General Secretary of BACHSAS Rahat Saiful, AKM Mejbah Uddin, Md A Rahim and Kamrun Nesa Hasan, among others.

Journalist Sabrina Shuvra, actress-dancer Mehbooba Mahnoor Chandni, director Sajjad Hossain Dodul and writer Md Arifur Rahman have been made members of the short film grant committee.

The notification states that the committee will approve release of second installment of the grant-funded film.

However, at least 80 per cent of the shooting must be completed before the release of the third installment.
