Measles death toll reaches 750

Three children died with symptoms consistent with measles in the 24 hours until 8:00am on Friday, raising Bangladesh’s combined tally of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 750, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The latest fatalities have been classified as suspected measles deaths.

With the latest update, suspected measles deaths increased to 657, while laboratory-confirmed measles deaths remained unchanged at 93.

The DGHS also reported 901 new suspected measles cases during the reporting period, taking the cumulative number of suspected infections nationwide to 109,899.

Meanwhile, 128 new laboratory-confirmed cases were recorded, raising the total number of confirmed infections to 13,326.

Since March 15, a total of 92,831 patients with suspected measles have been admitted to hospitals across the country.

Of them, 89,234 patients have recovered and been discharged, according to the DGHS.

Health authorities continue to monitor the outbreak as suspected and confirmed cases are being reported from different parts of the country.
